Nation: Why Arbab Rahim turned against CJ

Essa NaqviISLAMABAD - Of so many 'reasons ' told to the people about the reference filed against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdry, one has until now remained unexplained. And that is as to what complaints did the provinces have against the CJ. Soon after the presidential reference was filed against the CJ, Chief Minister Sindh Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim came all the way to Islamabad to hold a press conference, wherein the CM 'revealed' that all provinces had complaints against the Chief Justice and that the reference was a bold initiative by the President. Sources told TheNation on Wednesday that the CM Sindh actually turned against the CJ after he took a suo moto notice against Abdur Rehman Mari, a politically influential feudal lord of Sindh, who is considered as the right hand of PML-Functionals Chief, Pir Saheb Pagaro. Abdur Rehman Mari had charges of kidnapping seven family members of Munoo Bheel in 1998. Munoo Bheel has been continuously protesting since 2003 in front of Press Club Hayderabad against the illegal detention of his family members. Moved by the ordeal of Munoo, Justice Iftikhar Chaudhy took a suo moto notice and consequently the said feudal lord was arrested. However, using influence, sources claimed, the CM Sindh got the inquiry officer of the case, DIG Salimullah, suspended. Moreover, the CM ran to Islamabad and convinced the PML top leadership, especially Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, that the CJ's initiatives enraged all the Sindh-based feudal lords and were disturbing the political scene in the province, which is a stronghold of PPP-P, the sources said. The sources further revealed, Also the police high-ups in Sindh were not happy, for they had to go to Islamabad to explain their position every now and then before the Supreme Court, where they had to face a judge who would take strict actions on their 'wrong doings.' Besides, around four Sindh-based SHOs were arrested on the orders of the Supreme Court and they are still in This entire situation was enough for the CM to turn against the Chief\nJustice and make the power-corridors in Islamabad realise that such a\nCJ would create problems for flourishing of the party. Therefore, Dr Gulam Arbab Rahim, added to the complaints against the Chief Justice and played a role in his suspension the sources concluded.
